Jenn has informed us that two of her papers were published in the December issues of Pediatric Nephrology and Diabetes Care. She is the third author!!!

We Play Oak Park Tonight!
Our district tournament starts today, and we play Oak Park! I think the girls are very excited and are going to play really well. Even if we don't go very far after today, it would be a really good thing for our team to beat Oak Park. They have the potential, but just lack in experience.
This picture turned out so good. They girls wanted a "casual" picture, and wouldn't you know it, the day we planned to meet, it was raining. This was the first picture....by the time we were done...we were all soaked!

1st Place in the Lexington Tourney!
Kelsey's volleyball team went undefeated last Saturday at a tournament in Lexington, MO. It was extremely exciting and the girls all did a great job. We beat a team in the last game that we had played earlier in the year, where we just barley won. This time we beat them with a much bigger margin, which is a credit to how much they have worked to improve this year.

1st Game is a Winner!
We drove to Cameron Missouri to see Kelsey's first game. It was so exciting!
We won the first game 28 to 26 and the 2nd game 25 to 22. Kelsey did a great job. She had some awesome defensive plays and also some great tips. I still find myself saying "go Oakies"..I have to constantly remember that we are Falcons now!

Staley High School Falcons - Volleyball!
Kelsey has been given an opportunity of a lifetime to be a member of the very first varsity volleyball team for a brand-new high school. She is an outside hitter. Our very first game is Tuesday, Sept 2 at Cameron High School and our 1st home game is Wed, Sept 3. It's strange for our family to be wearing green and black...as we have been a part of Oak Park for over 30 years. The school is amazing, beautiful and first-class! We'll keep you posted on how the team does.

Woman's Day Magazine

My business partner, Judy, was so excited the other day. She told me to sit down because she had some great news for me. She got a call from a writer for Woman's Day magazine, and they asked us to be interviewed for an article they want to write on getting your home ready for Christmas! Can you believe that? We were sooooo excited! A couple of days later, she called us back and did the interview over the phone. She said it would be in the December issue...which comes out in mid-November. Wow! We really hope that it happens....trying not to get too excited until we see the actual magazine in the stores!...we'll keep you posted!
Vacation With Jenn
We had a really fun and busy vacation this year. Jenn picked us up at the Raleigh/Durham airport and we drove up to DC for two and 1/2 days. We stayed in a hotel that was pretty close to everything...so we walked and walked and walked! We really enjoyed it.

We then came back to Winston-Salem for 1 night and then loaded up again in Jenn's car (Tyler went too) and went to the top of a Mountain and rode our bikes down. The first 17 miles were really easy...actually hardly any peddling at all...but the second 17 miles were flatter and we had to work a lot harder. It was so beautiful! I'ver never seen so many pretty wooden bridges and streams. On the way home Jenn took us by Appalachian State University for Kelsey to see. It was a beautiful campus, setting up on a hill in the mountains!

The next day we went to Tyler's parent's lake house and did some water skiing. Jenn was quite impressive slaloming for us and of course Tyler and his Dad also were "professional like" skiers. Bob and I got up the first time, which was nice, because it had been about 8 or 9 years since we had skied. This was Kelsey's first time to ski...it took her a little bit, but she got up and did a great job! The Talton's are very gracious people and we had a really fun day at the lake with them.

Sunday we went to church with Jenn and Tyler and then we were supped to go to a minor-league baseball game (Greensboro Grasshoppers)...but we got messed up on the time, so we just went to a movie instead.
Monday we drove up to a really pretty spot and went hiking at "Hanging Rock" mountain. It was really pretty. I was really getting tired by this time...but we all hung in there and hiked about 7 miles or so.

Tuesday Jenn had a tour set up for Kelsey at Wake Forest Univ. There must have been about 150 kids/parents there too. That was a little overwhelming considering they get several thousand applications each year, and only a small number.
Great Memories....Great Vacation!

Blown Away x 2

Last night Judy and I returned to a home that we had given some staging recommendations to a few months ago. We were absolutely blown away! They had gone through our entire 4-page list of recommendations and done almost everything we suggested. This was a beautiful home to begin with, in a up-scale neighborhood, but it just needed some changes in order to be ready for the real estate market. The home-owner has impeccable taste, which provided nice furniture and artwork and accessories to work with. The really neat thing is that they worked so hard, and the results were so worth it. They painted their outside shutters, they removed wall-paper from their living room and kitchen, they painted their ceiling in their master bedroom, they moved some really huge furniture out of their bedroom and a very large desk out of their kitchen. They are listing their house today....and I can't imagine it being on the market very long. I hope to post pictures this weekend, it will be fun to see the before and after. The couple was so complimentary of us and were surprised that we had only been in business for a year and 1/2. They said we really knew what we were talking about, and just assumed we had been staging for a long time.
So, on the way home, we are all happy and smiling when I get out of the car and our brand-new car magnets that have our b&b logo on it were gone! They blew off the car on the way home! Kelsey and I got back in the car and retraced our steps, and we found 1 of the car magnets on the highway, but not the 2nd one. I got up this morning, and drove the same path again, looking everywhere on the highway (I can't believe how much trash is on the sides of highways) but I didn't see it. Oh well...live and learn! At least I have 1! What a day!

I'm 49 - Forever!
49!
When your birthday is close to the 4th...well you are bound to have a fun time!
We went to Smithville lake for the first time, and saw the fireworks from a hill close to the dam. It was really pretty reflecting off of the lake.
I always think it is great when I get a staging call...and I got one on Saturday morning, so we went and did a preview on a spotless, beautiful home. I sure hope we get to go back and actually stage it, because it will be fun!
Yesterday was my birthday and Kelsey kept reminding me that 50 was just around the corner! That is so hard to believe! I am really enjoying this time of my life, however. Our kids are grown and they are so much fun to be around. I hope someday we are all together again in the same city. I miss having little get togethers with Jenn.
Bob and Kelsey grilled us steaks Saturday night and then on Sunday afternoon we went for a long walk at Smithville lake and ate dinner there. Good times and good memories. I am anxious to see Jenn in a couple of weeks...that will make it all complete!

Bob's 2nd Most Favorite Thing To Do
Next to camping, Bob loves to go bike riding. Yesterday he decided to try a new place for us to go ride. We drove out to Shawnee Mission Park. It is a really big park with nice paved riding trails (which I prefer, but Bob likes the non-paved better). It started out really nice and realtively flat, and we were just enjoying the scenery and a couple of deer that we spotted. We decided to head down a couple of side paths, and my "easy bike ride" became the workout of a lifetime! Next to giving birth to my 2 girls without any drugs...this was the most physically taxing thing I've done. We rode 20 miles...and honestly I think all but about 8 miles of it was uphill! The worst part was that Bob never huffed and puffed once...or even broke out in a sweat! He was sweet to go slow (very slow) for me and encouraged me along the way. Bob took a picture of me afterwards...I'll post it as soon as we get it off his phone.

My daughter, the Risk Taker

I read a book recently by Mark Batterson "In a Pit with a Lion on a Snow Day: How to Survive and Thrive When Opportunity Roars". It talks about creating opportunities out of every day life situations and making great things happen because you trust God to do so.
Jenn is such a good example of the principles in this book. She places herself out of her normal comfort zone on a pretty continual basis, and has some pretty neat stories to tell about it!
Living on her own in Winston-Salem, buying a house by herself, standing in line for 10 hours to try out for "Deal or No Deal", running a marathon, starting a small group bible study, helping with the special Olympics, learning to ski (slalom) and walking around NYC by herself while Bob was at work there....and much more. She never ceases to amaze me...I'm so very proud of who she is!

Kelsey gets 2 firsts!

Have you ever gone to a brand new school? Well, Kelsey has done it twice! She attended a brand new elementary school from 2nd grade to 5th grade, and now she will attend a brand new high school. She will be the 1st graduating class of Staley High School. Here's a link to the new school...they have some pictures...it is so beautiful! http://www.nkcsd.k12.mo.us/sths/
Camp Blog
Kelsey's youth counselors are posting a blog daily about their adventures at camp. If you get a chance to read it, they have 5 things they'd like you to pray for while the kids are there. Here's a link http://aymhscamp.wordpress.com/.

Long-Distance Staging

My sister and her husband are moving from Hot Springs South Dakota to West Virginia. She e-mailed me a bunch of pictures of her home. I told her I was going to treat her just like a "client" and give her lots to think about. We spent about 45 minutes on the phone...I was looking at pictures and she was walking thru her house. It was so much fun! She was a real trooper and took all my suggestions and recommendations and went straight to work. She sent me pictures just a day or so later that are beautiful! I wish I could come up with a marketing concept for people who live in areas that Home Stagers don't exist..and give them recommendations via the internet/e-mail. It worked perfectly for her...maybe it could work for others! Anyone with some ideas?
Check out all her hard work!
Kelsey Left Today For Camp
Kelsey has such a fun group of friends. She has gone to camp with 3 of these girls since she was in 4th grade! They always have a blast. She will be in southern Missiouri until Wednesday afternoon. I hope God works in her heart, and I can't wait to hear how it goes!
Bob thought he was funny to sneak in the picture!
Bob's sabbatical
1. He did not fall off the ladder.
2. The weather was absolutely beautiful. There was rain quite often, but it mostly came in the evening.
3. We bought the paint on sale.
4. The next 2 trips to get more paint .......were on sale too. :)
5. We didn't like the color at first, but now that it is all done, we like it just fine.
